    • Mary C. Bowen, in her work entitled "Crow Family History," references memoirs of John Finley Crow, son of Benjamin Crow and grandson of Walter Crow, written in 1848. Crow states that his "paternal grandmother Mary Stuart was from Scotland and a Presbyterian." His "paternal grandfather, having emigrated from England settled in St. George's Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware. For a number of years he kept a public house of some notoriety at the Sign of the "Three Sons," but some 12 or 15 years before the commencement of the Revolutionary War, he emigrated to Virginia and settled near the spot on which Harrisonburg, Rockingham County, was afterward built." He further stated that his paternal grandfather (Walter) "had several brothers, some of whom settled on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, while one migrated still farther South into the Carolinas." They all belonged to the Church of England.

Next, he states that his grandfather (Walter) raised a family of five sons: James, John, William, Benjamin and Jacob, and three daughters: Polly, Nancy, and Rachel. The eldest son James settled near Abingdon, Washington Co., Virginia, where having raised a family of three sons and seven daughters he died at a good old age, a member of the Presbyterian Church in good circumstances.

*note - the actual text from the memoirs is NOT included in Ms. Bowen's work. (but now have partial copy from an ancestry tree)

Assuming this is our Walter, and that he truly married a Mary Stuart - we do not know when they wed, and we do not know when she died.

We DO know that Walter named wife "Anne" in his will.

We do NOT know if this is the same person, and if not, when Walter and Anne married.

Walter named eight children in his will. We do NOT know the mother - Mary or Anne - for any of these children.
