    • The exact date or place of George and Talitha's marriage is unknown. Their marriage is not on record in Mercer, Boyle, or Washington County, Kentucky.

Their marriage can be shown, however, through the probate records of Samuel and Martha Potts.

In Samuel Potts' will, produced to Boyle County court in November of 1847, Samuel provides for his daughter, Talitha Stewart, writing in part, as follows:
It is my Will and desire after the payment of my debts that the balance of my estate not otherwise appropriated be equally divided between my legitimate children together with my illegitimate Son Jefferson Potts, who I wish to share equally with them, subject however to the following conditions (Viz) It is my desire that my daughters Mary Roney and Talitha Stewart's portions be placed at Interest for their benefit during their lives to be paid to them annually - at their death the principal to be equally divided among their children - in case that either or both of them should marry prudent and discreet men to be judged of by my Executor, Then in that event the full amount to be paid over to them.

A settlement of Samuel Potts' estate, made in February of 1851, shows distribution of $265.26 to J. Minor, for Talitha Stewart's children.
Of note, James Allen Stewart, as guardian for Mary and Samuel Stewart, later acknowledges receipt of $265, in July of 1851, Boyle County, Kentucky.

Probate record for Martha Potts, dated 1853, gives listing of the names of Martha heirs, including "Talitha Potts, intermarried with George Stuart."

Settlement of Martha Potts' estate, made in 1856, shows distribution to "James A. Stewart, guardian."

Have the following listing of a marriage, in Scott County, Indiana:
      George W. Stewart
      Tabitha Potts
      August 16, 1840
Scott County is adjacent to Jennings County, Indiana. According to Glenda Thacker, Tabitha's maternal grandfather lived in Jennings County.

(*note - there is no George or Tabitha Stewart living in Scott County, in 1850).

** February 2008: wrote county requesting record. Searched - reportedly could not find these names, nor this marriage, anywhere from 1820s to past 1840. Am presently reviewing microfilm, in search of this record.

**I note the 1840 census date was June 1, 1840 - well before this marriage - and George Stewart is on the census with a female in the house.
